Heather Bleacher - UH Track
Tufts University School of Medicine
I grew up in a tiny town called China, Maine and went to Princeton University for undergrad. Senior year I met my husband, Jarrett, who was finishing up at the Coast Guard Academy in Connecticut. I spent the year after graduation in Boston, applying for med school and working in a lab, while Jarrett started his 5 year commission in Portland, Maine. I stayed in Boston for med school at Tufts, nestled among the storefronts of Chinatown offering bubble tea and roast duck. Most of my free time in med school was spent traveling up to Portland, playing pub trivia, and hanging out with the cutest kids in the world - my nephew and nieces (it's true, they won and they have trophies to prove it). I feel so fortunate now to be in a great city, surrounded by amazing people, and training to be a family doc.
Kathryn Boyd - UH Track
University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine
I am very excited about the possibility of improving health care in our country. I am very interested in underserved and rural communities. I grew up in Colorado and hope to stay here. In my free time I love hanging out with my husband and playing with my two little girls.
Lauren Gray - DH Track
University of North Texas HSC at Ft. Worth College of Osteopathic Medicine
I was born and raised in the lone star state, and after a brief stent in a beautiful little town known as "Malibu", I returned to my birth town of Fort Worth, TX, for medical school. My husband and I couples matched at the University of Colorado, and he is enjoying his time as an intern in the Internal Medicine program here. He is from northern California and we love being close to the mountains here in Denver, a new and very exciting city for both of us. I was really drawn to the DH track because of my interest in access to healthcare in underserved urban populations. I love the program here, especially my co-interns, who are some of the most intelligent, compassionate, and entertaining people I have ever met. Outside of medicine, I love live music (and Denver has a sweet music scene), running, hiking, biking, microbrews (very much looking forward to the Great American Beer Fest), happy hour, breakfast, lunch, brunch and dinner, among many other fun activities. I'm excited but a bit nervous about my first real winter and am having fun deciding which winter sports to pursue during my time here. Also looking forward to the Mavs coming into town and putting those nuggets in their place.
Robert Klein - DH Track
University of Vermont College of Medicine
He has led outdoor adventures in South America and worked for the Telluride handicapped ski program as an instructor. He spent time working at the People's Clinic in Boulder while doing undergraduate work. During medical school he established a mobile health van operated by medical students to care for migrant workers at Vermont Dairy farms. He also did some international health work in Central America.
Kyle Knierim - UH Track
University of North Carolina School of Medicine
A bit about me -- I grew up outside Chicago, went to undergrad at Santa Clara University, did research in Boston and med school in NC. Now my wife, Shanna, new puppy, Duncan, and I are happy to be in Denver! Professionally, the program's P4 curriculum fits well with my interests in quality improvement and practice redesign. Personally, Shanna and I have enjoyed the many opportunities the area provides to hike, bike, ski, and explore a great city with our friends.
Emma Swingle - UH Track
University of Washington School of Medicine
I was born in the burgeoning college town of Bozeman, Montana - a land of good skiing, scenic fishing, and strong primary care support. At Carroll College in Helena, Montana I earned degrees in Biology and Spanish while enjoying the general unruliness of adolescence. On the pretext of improving my Spanish, I spent a summer studying and traveling by bus through rural Mexico. I supported this mix of debauchery and academics with an assortment of jobs including working in a potato laboratory and as a hospital phlebotomist.
The University of Washington pulled me away from my inland life when I entered medical school through the WWAMI program. My experience in Seattle fostered my love of outdoor markets, quality coffee, and dizzily days making s'mores over a beach fire. Despite my newfound love of all places rainy (and slightly mildewed), I am pleased to return to the Rocky Mountains to continue my medical training. Specifically, I was drawn to the University of Colorado program because of the innovative curriculum and forward-thinking staff. The diverse patient population and variety of training opportunities make me feel confident that I will be prepared to practice in either rural or urban settings.
Jena Valdez - UH Track
University of Colorado Denver School of Medicine
I am a Colorado native, born and raised in Pueblo, and I couldn't be more thrilled to be staying here for residency! I received my undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. I graduated from the University of Colorado School of Medicine and couples matched with my boyfriend, Kirk Reichelt, who is in the Internal Medicine program. Being from an underserved area, I have a strong interest in providing care for underserved populations, particularly in Southern Colorado. I also have an interest in women's health and procedures. When I am not in the hospital or clinic I enjoy cycling, swimming, cooking, and spending time with family and friends. I hope to complete my first triathlon in the summer of 2010. Having done two rotations at the University Family Medicine program as a medical student, I am confident that this program will provide many opportunities to facilitate a variety of resident needs and interests.
Andrea Wismann - UH Track

Celeste Dean - UH Track
Jefferson Medical College of Thomas Jefferson U
As a child, my family moved around quite a bit so I grew up in West Virginia, Colorado and Kentucky. After graduating from high school I spent a year in Spain working as an au pair near Madrid. I then attended Earlham College in Richmond, Indiana where I earned a BA in Biology. Still unsure what to do with my life; I obtained my first real job as a lab technician at the University of Kentucky doing neurobiology bench-top research. It was at this point that I took stock of my interests and goals and decided to apply to medical school. I finished up the necessary prerequisite courses at UK, volunteered as a patient educator at Planned Parenthood, and applied to medical school in my third year of working as a lab tech. At the end of my first year at Jefferson Medical College in Philadelphia I met and fell in love with my husband Christopher Campbell, an architect from New Jersey. We were married in May of my third year, now almost exactly one year ago. That year I also finally figured out what I’m going to be when I grow up, a Family Doc! Chris and I are very excited to begin our new life in Colorado, where I‘ve been yearning to return since I was 10. I’m thrilled to start my training to become a Family Physician.
Justin Lee - UH Track
University of North Carolina School of Medicine
The son of a former Air Force officer, I moved around every few years as a kid. After my father retired, my family settled down in Boone, NC when my mom got a job at Appalachian State University (ring any bells? the giant killer in college football after beating Michigan!). After high school in Boone, I attended the University of North Carolina at Greensboro on a baseball scholarship, did one year of graduate school at App State, and then attended UNC-Chapel Hill for medical school. As much as I love NC, after 14 years it was time for a change of scenery, which is why I am so excited about moving to Colorado. I enjoy just about anything involving physical activity (baseball/softball, football, basketball, golf, racquetball, snowboarding, running, lifting weights) and will watch most sporting events on TV (especially college basketball, go Heels!). I also enjoy playing cards, watching movies, and reading a good fiction novel when time allows. My medical interests include sports medicine (surprise surprise), in-office procedures, pediatric/adolescent medicine, cardiovascular disease prevention, and overall preventative health. I know UC is a great program and I look forward to helping carry on that tradition.
Michael Meeuwsen - UH Track
Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine
Raised in Colorado, and I'm back! Pueblo, CO is my hometown, but education and research kept me away for nearly 14 years. It's so good to be back. There's no place like home, but I did thoroughly enjoy the
Midwest during undergraduate and medical school (Creighton and Loyola respectively). Research provided not only a year and a half in Germany, but also sent me on the most important move of my life, to Seattle, where I met my wife, Anna. Travel is one of the many things we enjoy together, and extended trips have taken us to both Bolivia and Northern India. In addition to our common interests in travel and Family Medicine, -- Anna's a year ahead of me in this same program. -- we also enjoy several outdoor activities, including hiking, snowshoeing, and mountaineering. Of course, it's no surprise that Denver life suits us well.

University of Iowa Roy J. & Lucille A. Carver School of Medicine
I was born and raised in Bettendorf, Iowa and completed my undergraduate degree at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. After undergrad, I spent time volunteering, working, and traveling. I attended medical school at the University of Iowa and am excited to be starting my residency career in Family Medicine! I am interested in working with the medically underserved and sports medicine, and hope to combine the two during my career. I enjoy traveling and spending time with family and friends and am excited to explore Colorado!

Midwestern University AZ College of Osteopathic Medicine
I am originally from Madison, Wisconsin. I finished my undergraduate degree at the University of Wisconsin and then moved to Atlanta to pursue my Masters in Public Health from Emory University. After completing my MPH and working in Atlanta, I moved to Phoenix to attend Midwestern University Arizona College of Osteopathic Medicine. I chose osteopathy because I enjoy bodywork and think the body has an amazing capability of healing itself. My interests and hobbies include massage therapy (I'm a certified therapist), hiking, swimming, Bikram yoga, and traveling. I have an eight year old black lab, named Badja, that I adore, and I try and spend time with family (who are in Wisconsin and Seattle) and friends as much as possible.
Amelia Virostko - DH Track
Tufts University School of Medicine
Where to start? I'm originally from the Washington DC area, but I've come to consider myself a Massachusetts girl after heading up north to MIT for college and Tufts for medical school. While in medical school, I decided to go ahead and add more letters after my name and get an MPH since I'm interested in public policy work down the road. In particular, I'm interested in reproductive rights and opening confidential, school-based health centers that provide reproductive and mental health care to adolescents. If you can't already tell, I'm a politics junkie and like to stay socially active.
Outside of medicine, I love to read (I try to read 2-3 books a week although this doesn't always happen), listen to and discover new music, and cook. I lived in a co-op in college and part of medical school and cooked there, so I'm very adept at cooking for 30-50 people, but I now have a much harder time cooking for small numbers of people. I've practiced Bikram yoga (the kind at 100F heat and 90% humidity for 90 minutes) on and off over the past few years and look forward to starting up again in Colorado and taking advantage of the amazing trails and scenery for hiking. I'm thrilled to be heading out to the Denver/Boulder area with my boyfriend who will be starting UC-Boulder Law School this coming school year.

Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine
Hi everyone. I’m originally from Illinois and graduated from Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Kirksville, MO. After my 2nd year of medical school I was lucky enough to break free of the Midwest and begin my clinical rotations in the Colorado region. I have now spent my 3rd and 4th years in Denver and I am excited to continue to train in this great city.
Outside of medicine I’m learning to love all that Colorado has to offer- hiking, biking, climbing and skiing. I’ve been married for a year and a half now to the man who brought me to this state. Together we split our time between Denver and Estes Park (where he works).
Edwin Baca - UH Track
University of Colorado School of Medicine
Passion and family. These are two words that describe who I am as a man and as a physician. My wife, Brandye, and I have been blessed with the birth of our son Cameron, this past year. He is our world! I never imagined how one person can bring so much joy and fulfillment to our lives. Through adversity and experience, I have learned what some doctors never do. A title is just a title, and a job is just a job; however, the passion that truly gives us the ability to a touch a life is what we all aspire to become, and this is what I truly aspire to do and achieve in my pursuit of happiness. Family Medicine will be my avenue to do this, and I am honored to have this opportunity.

What to say. I have a lovely wife, Jessica, and a great dog, Mango. We live here in Stapleton. It's a nice central location to downtown and work. I hail from Oklahoma, went to college and medical school in Louisiana, and now am out west. We really enjoy the weather, cultural opportunities, and things to do on that precious day off. I enjoy disc golf, ultimate Frisbee, bike riding, and sports in general. The different exposures between Denver Health, University of Colorado, and AF Williams clinics have been challenging. You learn something new everyday.

Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences
I am a 30 year old Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine from the Kansas City University of Medicine and Biosciences. My dog Athena and I moved out to Colorado from my home town of Atlanta. I did my undergraduate at the University of Colorado at Boulder, so I know I am fortunate to have matched with such an excellent program. My passions are traveling, music, and trying new things, especially new foods and new sports. Two of my extracurricular goals for the next three years are to learn how to telemark and to become a yoga instructor. I am a free thinker but I am good at following rules. I am interested in health care policy and reform and I am not afraid to work hard and stand up for what I believe in. I am super excited to practice Family Medicine in an academic setting and I look forward to meeting people who have similar goals and interest.

Suzanne (Suzy) Gomez - DH Track
University of Illinois College of Medicinee
I grew up in Kansas and graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Biology. After college, I took a year off before medical school to do cancer research at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD while living in Washington D.C. I realized how much I enjoyed exploring new cities so I decided to pursue my medical degree at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Chicago has been a great experience, but I am looking forward to living in Denver and enjoying the great outdoors while still being close to my family. I love traveling, hiking, camping, yoga, and spending time with friends and family.

AnnaMarie Meeuwsen - UH Track
Loyola University of Chicago Stritch School of Medicine
Originally from Seattle, I grew up enjoying the outdoors and have always loved to travel and learn about other parts of the world. For college, I chose to experience the Midwestern US and received my BA in Philosophy at Kenyon College in Ohio in 1998. Following that, I spent a couple summers as a rafting guide in Moab, Utah, before returning to Seattle to complete pre-medicine requirements. I met my husband, Michael, during those years and we applied to medical schools together. In the year before starting, we traveled to Bolivia to climb and volunteer in the Children's Hospital of La Paz. We went to Med school at Loyola in Chicago and enjoyed international electives as much as possible. He is also doing Family Medicine.
In our time off we enjoy getting outdoors with our Greater Swiss Mountain Dogs and enjoying the mountains.

Tamaan Osbourne-Roberts - UH Track
University of Colorado School of Medicine
As an Air Force brat and the child of Trinidadian immigrants, I lived in Guam, Florida, New York, and Mississippi before ending up here in Denver at age 10. Following a B.A. in Biology/English from Williams College (where I met my beautiful wife and the sexiest policy wonk ever, Camille), I worked as an admissions officer for Hampshire College and MIT before coming back to Colorado for medical school. I'm an avid scuba diver (COMPLETE ADDICT!!!), cook (Trinidadian, Cajun/Southern, and Italian), and nature lover (hiking, wildlife/plant ID); I also enjoy eating (sushi!), writing poetry, and engaging in public speaking/performance at every available opportunity!
