University of Colorado Family Medicine Residency

Message from Program Director Dan Burke, MD

A message from Dan Burke, Program Director, University of Colorado Family Medicine Residency

I love training Family Doctors at the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and Denver Health Medical Center. The positive aspects of training here are too numerous to count, but here are some of my favorites.

  • Our Residents– Our skilled and dedicated residents carry the pride of our specialty into our Academic Medical Center. They work side by side with house staff of all specialties sharing skills, experiences, and mutual respect. In this University environment our Residents are important role models for students of all health professions.
  • Our Faculty – As Program Director I am incredibly fortunate to have so many outstanding faculty dedicated to educating residents. Our faculty of Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, PA’s, Behavioral Scientists, Educational Specialists and Pharmacologists have tremendous strengths in behavior change, advanced obstetrical skills, diabetes, women’s health, sports medicine, rural medicine, practice management, chronic care, research, international medicine, community outreach, indigent care, pediatrics, procedural skills and on and on. Visit the faculty section of our website to view the breadth, depth and vast experience of this amazing collection of people.
  • Our Department of Family Medicine - The DFM at the University of Colorado has been a national leader since the beginning of the specialty of Family Medicine. Under the leadership of Department Chair Frank deGruy, the department is forging the many skills and relationships that will make the Future of Family Medicine concepts into a reality. Our residency enjoys a seat at the center of collaborations between the University of Colorado, Denver Health and numerous community organizations. The Future of Family Medicine begins at the University of Colorado’s Department of Family Medicine.
  • Our Staff – The Nursing and support staff of the Residency and our AF Williams and Lowry clinics provide skilled and dedicated service to keep our organizations running and provide important educational experiences for our residents.
  • Our Facilities – University Hospital and Denver Heath Medical Center are the premier teaching hospitals for the entire Rocky Mountain Region. They are dedicated to Excellence in Patient Care, Medical Education, Innovation and Care of the Underserved. Our residency enjoys the company of some of the most skilled and dedicated health professionals in the world.
  • Our Location – Denver is a vibrant, culturally rich and comfortable city. Colorado’s beauty and recreational opportunities are vast. Family Medicine is a respected and central component to health care delivery here making this an ideal place to train and pursue a career in Family Medicine.

Thank you for visiting our website. Don’t hesitate to e-mail me directly or any of our faculty, residents or staff if you would like more information about us. Thank you for considering sharing your Future in Family Medicine with ours.
