Clinical Psychologist - Family Medicine Residency at A.F. Williams Family Medicine Center

The Department of Family Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver is seeking a part-time to half-time clinical psychologist to serve as a health behavior change educator and residency faculty member.   The Family Medicine Residency at AF Williams is committed to training physicians who are highly skilled in assisting patients with health maintenance and health behavior change. The successful candidate will play a key role in bringing all clinicians up to speed with current research and practice in behavioral health psychology.  

Responsibilities include teaching resident and faculty physicians to provide health behavior change counseling to patients in the context of routine medical visits, evaluation of physician skills with health behavior change and some direct patient care.  Prior experience with medical education, clinical health psychology and primary care psychology preferred.

Requirements:
Licensed or licensable in the state of Colorado
Skills in psychotherapy and health behavior change counseling
Eligible for accreditation at University Hospital and Denver Health and Hospitals

Deborah Seymour, Psy.D. Director of Behavior Science

Detailed Job Description:

Teaching

  1. Provide educational, clinical co-consultation for resident and faculty physicians

  2. Provide health behavior change counseling training for physicians at AF Williams utilizing co-consultative and video tape methods of teaching

  3. Provide didactic and experiential education for resident and faculty physicians in all aspects of behavioral health

  4. Develop skills for teaching all aspects of Family Medicine Behavioral Health education

Administration

  1. Attend weekly faculty meetings

  2. Attend grant related administrative meetings

  3. Maintain records of teaching activity

  4. Evaluation of learner progress

Clinical

  1. Provide direct patient care when appropriate and related to teaching activities

  2. Further clinical activity may be added to increase FTE as desired/needed

Research

  1. Participate in research activities undertaken within AF Williams

  2. Participate in ongoing QI/UR activities

Activity Distribution

  1. Teaching/Administrative 85%

  2. Direct and supportive patient care 15%

The Department of Family Medicine at the University of Colorado Denver and Health Sciences Center is seeking a Family Medicine Director of Inpatient Services to join its University of Colorado Family Medicine Residency Training Program.

Responsibilities include: Optimizing the Family Medicine patient care and educational activities at the University of Colorado Hospital�s Anschutz Inpatient Pavilion as well as teaching and practicing the full scope of Family Medicine in our innovative P4 Family Medicine residency. Our residency is committed to training Family Physicians equipped to effectively practice comprehensive primary care in the twenty-first century with serious grounding in the Chronic Care Model, effective use of informatics, expertise in health behavior change and the integration of community resources in the care of patients. As detailed below, the incumbent will be responsible for supervising faculty, residents and students on our inpatient Family Medicine Service, developing and maintaining relationships with faculty from other specialties and hospital staff and developing and implementing our inpatient curriculum. The incumbent will also precept and see patients in our model Family Medicine center.

Detailed Job Description:
Clinical Teaching

  1.  Outpatient - Precepting residents during their continuity clinics at the AF Williams Family Medicine Center 1-2 half days per week (When not attending on the inpatient service.) Provide reports on resident performance during their continuity clinics.
  2. Inpatient - Supervising residents on the Family Medicine inpatient service approximately 11 weeks per year and 52 night calls per year. Provide evaluation reports on residents and students on the inpatient service.

Administration/Education/Scholarly Activity

  1. Attend weekly faculty meetings
  2. Optimize the Family Medicine patient care and educational activities at University of Colorado Hospital (UCH) by creating and maintaining relationships with faculty from other services, nursing, ancillary and administration personal to maintain, improve and otherwise maximize the patient care and educational opportunities for Family Medicine at UCH. Create and maintain Family Medicine curriculum for residents, students and other learners at UCH. Be an active member of the UH/DH Family Medicine Residency faculty and enhance coordination of care between the University Hospital Family Medicine Clinics and UCH inpatient services. Attend appropriate meetings including monthly inpatient directors meeting and a monthly meeting with the UCH chief operating officer. Supervise/coordinate resident, attending and student scheduling, performance and evaluation on the FMS
  3. Assume faculty advisor responsibility for 2 - 4 residents. Advisor responsibilities include role modeling and mentoring resident, preparing a presentation about each resident approximately 2 times per year to be presented at resident review conference, assisting in preparation and implementation of resident remediation plans if needed, attendance at twice annual resident performance review meetings.
  4. Serve as faculty coordinator for adult inpatient medicine. Faculty coordinator responsibilities include defining the goals and objectives for inpatient medicine and Family Medicine rotations, knowing the relevant RRC requirements, coordinating the scheduling of related clinical activities and structured learning sessions, building and maintaining the necessary relationships to optimize educational value, collecting feedback on these experiences, preparing a report on this curricular domain at least annually, contribute to the writing of relevant sections for external (ACGME) and internal (UCHSC GME) program review reports.
  5. Participate in scholarly activities of our learning community including educational, clinical and community oriented innovations we have underway at our residency related to our P4 project.
  6. Participate in didactic teaching for our didactics curriculum as well as other special curricular features such as Basics and Chautauquas.

Clinical

  1.  Provide direct patient care at the AF Williams Family Medicine 1 -2 half days per week while not on the inpatient service
  2. Occasional direct (as opposed to supervisory) inpatient attending work for times when a resident is not available

WISH Clinician-Educator Faculty Position

Responsibilities for the Clinician-Educator faculty position for Women�s Health include clinical, administrative and educational duties as follows:

Clinical. The Clinician-Educator faculty member for the Department of Family Medicine will provide direct patient care eight to nine (4-5) half (1/2) days per week at the University of Colorado Hospital�s Women�s Health Program site. This position will also proportionately share responsibilities for night, weekend, and vacation coverage call with the AF Williams Family Medicine Center faculty. Patient scheduling will be mutually agreed upon in order to maximize the Clinician-Educator�s potential to earn additional compensation based on clinical earnings. The Clinician-Educator will also supervise residents and participate in medical grand rounds and weekly case conferences

Education/Research. The Clinician-Educator will take an active role in public, staff, providers, and student / resident education specific to Women�s Health. Activities may include, but are not limited to, teaching students/residents, speaking on Women�s Health topics to the media, at seminars directed to the public, and in Grand Rounds or similar type conferences in different departments. The Clinician-Educator may collaborate with faculty in clinical research projects, but this position is not expected to be a clinician-researcher.

Administrative. During the startup period, it is anticipated that the Clinician-Educator will be providing significant administrative guidance in conjunction with the Steering Committee, Practice Director and Administrator. Initially, this would entail refining the program strategy, developing program start-up logistics and functions to include, but not limited to: editing forms, policies, services packaging, hiring staff and other operational decision-making. Once the practice is stabilized, one half (1/2) day per week will be allotted for administrative time.
